These pictures were taken April 18th, 2001 about 4pm in the afternoon and within
100 yards of home referred to as SeldomSeen (see the Seldom Seen pages). To
say I was surprised by how poorly these two lawns had faired over the Winter
and Spring up to this date would be an understatement. I never expected to see
this after all the Brown Lawn looked great last Fall, and the Weak Green lawn
was done the way lawns have been done for hundreds of years.
First, the "Brown Lawn" is new sod (dying .... no actually almost
dead sod). Imagine spending 300/400k for a beautiful new home and thousands
on new sod to only see this in mid April.
The lawn referred to as "Weak Green" is typical of the results you might expect from the old fashioned way of growing a new lawn. The old fashioned way ? Grass seed and straw, time, and hope.
